Bring It!

Since 2007, journalist Suzan Revah has written about gay nightlife, culture and lifestyle in a regular column for Gloss magazine called “Bring It!” She covers the full spectrum of the glittery rainbow that is San Francisco’s gayborhood, including dance parties, fundraisers, performances and politics.

Bring It! gets its name from Suzan’s belief that every event is exactly what you make of it. As San Francisco’s “Original Fag Hag,” Suzan is a party bringer who prefers to appreciate rather than hate, and participate rather than spectate. She lives to keep the swishy spirit of San Francisco alive and thriving.

Easter Bubbles

San Framily and Family Easter

From outside our bubble, we are judged, declared insane and even outlandish. We hear the clichés about fruit and nuts and we giggle. There are worse things than being called a dreamer. The stereotypes fit, but they also strengthen our pride in our quirks and eccentricities. San Franciscans may be hedonistic, but it’s hedonism with [...]

Circuit Serendipity

Suzan Brian Joanna fans

Let’s hear it for circuit serendipity. As I keep trying to plan my party calendar, it keeps unexpectedly shifting. All the while, I’m learning to go with the flow, with fantastic rewards. When the White Party Palm Springs first came into my consciousness, it went head-to-head with one of my favorite San Francisco holy days, [...]

Everyday Gay

Suzan Pollo Tristan Chaos

I remember when a person would have to seek out – and possibly hide out – to have an authentically gay experience. But in our town, you have to make a real effort – basically go backwards, to that mainstream middle – to realize just how far we’ve come. Imagine if the only drag queens [...]

When Intention Only Gets You So Far

Mr. Friendly

I preach a lot about things like balance, moderation and trying to be a good person while living San Francisco’s good life, but I don’t always succeed at heeding my own advice. It’s hard, when you’re caught up in the moment and trying to live in the present, to always be mindful and proper. Still, [...]

Full and Flawless Flow

Poolside yoga with Dom

I’m not religious, but I’ve got all kinds of spiritual philosophy when it comes to the dancefloor and the yoga mat and how both (like everything) are a metaphor for life. For someone who has never really been to church, I recognize a lot of life’s best times as “come to Jesus.” And from what [...]

Gaytopia at Sea

Allure of the Seas

Perhaps there are better things to enjoy in life than an Atlantis cruiseA term used in verb form to refer to checking out another gay man, perhaps in a sexually predatory way, but primarily characterized by nonverbal signals for sex. Also can be used in noun form to refer to the person being cruised, i.e. [...]

Re-Tried and True

Absolut Outrageous

As I ponder my circuit calendar for the year ahead and try to budget my limited gaycation days and dollars, my priorities come into question and I find myself waxing philosophical. When is something a tried-and-true tradition, and when is it truly tired, a ritual ready to be retired? How are we who really get [...]

When Epic is the New Typical

Suzan Colossus Fitness Boys

What do you do when epic is the new typical? Here in San Francisco, we are blessed by the fact that every weekend brings another opportunity for an excess of party, dance and joy. The only downside to this nightlife renaissance we are experiencing is that one person couldn’t possibly attend every fabulous party. So, [...]

Thicker Than Blood

Let Love Rule

In loving memory of Suzan’s Big DaddyAn older gay man. He may or may not prefer the company of younger men, but if he does and if he is moneyed, he is likely to be the dominant or top in the relationship. Also, “Leather Daddy.”, Lee Hamrick         Fabulous friends surround us [...]

Gifts That Keep on Giving

Suzan and Sister Phyllis

Most people wait until the holidays to be charitable, but nobody gets into the spirit of giving like the gays, which is why I love them so. For us, opportunities for togetherness aren’t just a seasonal thing. Counting the blessings we create among our chosen families is a year-round pursuit of happiness, and it’s inspiring, [...]
